How to install Laptop RAM?

Gather the necessary tools

Step 1

You will need a small Phillips screwdriver and an antistatic wrist strap (optional but recommended).

Shut down your laptop

Step 2

Make sure your laptop is turned off completely and disconnected from any power source.

Prepare a clean workspace

Step 3

Find a flat and well-lit area to work on. It's recommended to work on a non-static surface like a wooden table or an anti-static mat.

Remove the laptop's cover

Step 4

Unscrew the cover panel(s) that secure the RAM compartment. These panels are usually held in place with small screws. Set the screws aside safely.

Locate the RAM slot(s)

Step 5

Most laptops have an easily accessible RAM compartment on the underside of the device. Refer to your laptop's user manual or manufacturer's website to find the specific location of the RAM slots.

Step 6

Align the notch on the SODIMM RAM module with the notch on the slot and insert it at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.

Step 7

Once inserted, apply even pressure with your fingers to push the module down until the retaining clips snap back into place, securing the RAM.

Close the RAM compartment

Step 8

Ensure that the SODIMM module is seated properly in the slot. Then, reattach the cover panel(s) and secure them with the screws you removed earlier.

Power on your laptop

Step 9

Once the cover is securely fastened, plug in the power cable (if needed) and turn on your laptop. The system should detect the new RAM automatically, and you can verify the installation by checking the total amount of RAM in the operating system or BIOS.
